About:

'Beyond Us, We See' is an organization developed by Ellie Wilcox during her journey as a PhD candidate. With a background in Psychology/Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MA Liberty University 2017) and Animal Behavior and Welfare (MSc University of Edinburgh 2022), Ellie developed and proposed a PhD which combines the two fields. Ellie is now pursuing this PhD with the University of Lincoln (UK), conducting her research at different zoological facilities across Europe.

Ellie's PhD asks the question: Can measures translated from human cognitive psychology support zoo animal welfare, as well as public understanding toward animal emotion and species conservation? Her research focuses on eared seals (Sea Lions and Fur Seals) due to their prevalence in zoos, their trainability and ability to attract zoo visitors, and their complex social structures in nature.

All donations to 'Beyond Us, We See' will support further development of the organization into a nonprofit, as well as Ellie’s PhD journey. Ellie believes that seeing the depth in creation can reveal the human capacity for awareness and lead to personal growth.

Three original animals taught Ellie profound lessons that have inspired her journey to where she is today:
